I thought there might be a "secrets taken to the grave alert" about Jane Russell, the movie star and pin-up queen from the 1940s and 1950s who died on February 28, and the low rent Examiner did not disappoint. I never followed her career that closely, but looking online, she was an early supporter in Hollywood of adoption services, especially foreign adoption, which back in the day meant getting kids out of tough situations in war ravaged Europe. Good for her.

It's a little late to give her the "call her Miss" label, but best wishes to the family and friends of Jane Russell, and the low rent Examiner can keep their secrets.

I didn't post a breaking news story about the death of David Nelson, the older son of Ozzie and Harriet who died earlier this month at the age of 74. But people who are old enough to remember the brother who wasn't the pop star and still care about him are exactly the target demographic of the Globe and the low rent Examiner. I don't want to tell those weasels at the Globe their business, but gossiping about a woman who died 20 months ago doesn't really qualify as front page news anymore. Of course, we've had the Globe and the low rent Examiner, the two main sources of Hey Old Timer gossip, talking trash about June Allyson and Audrey Hepburn this year, so throwing dirt on the dead is a perfectly acceptable practice in their minds.

Last week, only People gave Leslie Nielsen a sendoff. I wrote that I was glad none of the Three Wicked Step Sisters decided to tell us about a secret he took to the grave.

Obviously, I spoke too soon.

It's taken me long enough, but I am just now creating a "Secrets taken to the grave alert" label, and I'll probably spend about an hour this morning searching through old posts adding this label to stories about Robert Culp and Tony Curtis and others.

It's the least I can do.
