Mexico closed out Costa Rica in impressive manner on Saturday, but while the result seemed to restore the faith in El Tricolor, it wasn't exactly surprising. Mexico have been nearly lights-out in home qualifiers, particularly in Estadio Azteca. In the semifinal round, Mexico won two games by a combined 5-1. During the 2005 Hexagonal, Mexico went 4-0 in Azteca and outscored their opponents 11-1 in those games.
On the road, however, El Tri have been a different beast, a rather tame one. In their last four qualifiers away from home, Mexico have gone 0-3-1, including one defeat at Honduras. Even in 2005, when El Tri did not suffer many of the same issues that plague this current squad, El Tri went 2-2-1 on the road.
