Storyline:
Mona Gray is a 20-year-old loner who, as a child, turned to math for salvation after her father became ill. As an adult, Mona now teaches the subject and must help her students through their own crises.
Movie Plot Summary:
Based on Aimee Bender’s book, the story centers on Mona Gray, a young girl who turned to mathematics as a means of dealing with a devastating family illness. Years later, Mona teaches the subject, and does her best to help her students contend with their own personal crises. Screen Daily reports that Jessica Alba will star in Silverwood Films and iDeal Partners Fund’s project. Shooting is set to begin in New York State in October. Pam Falk and Mike Ellis wrote the screenplay and will produce with Silverwood Films’ Lynette Howell and Jana Edelbaum while Rachel Cohen of iDeal and Jason Felts and Justin Berfield of J2 Pictures serve as executive producers.
Movie Review:
Watched this on On Demand and loved the quirkiness and the charm. Jessica Alba embodied “Mona Gray” well. I was a bit disappointed to see that America Ferrara didn’t play the part until I actually saw the film. Jessica makes it work. Was also worried the movie wouldn’t be as good as the book, which is one of my favorites,but the writers really did a good job. Chris Messina is always good in anything he does and he doesn’t disappoint here. It was a nice surprise to see Sonia Braga on screen again. Sophie Nyweide is perfectly cast as “Lisa Venus”, the sad, brave little girl who helps Mona Gray overcome her own emotional obstacles. This film is a sweet escape from a long day. Curl up on the couch and give it a whirl.
