Sooo I finally got the 2010 September Issue of VOGUE With Halle Berry On the cover and the magazine is like 75% of Ads..I was refreshingly shocked to see this amazing editorial with the amazing Performace Artist NICK CAVE....The suits He wears while performing are made variously of human hair, raffia, twigs, dryer lint, vintage toys and buttons, engulf the wearer to the point that observers "are not able to identify race, gender, creed, anything. Their swishing, rustling and bobbing create their own soundtrack while also muffling the wearer's senses...I so regret missing his last performance at UCLA...The Jack Shainman Gallery in New York has sold Soundsuits for as much as $75,000. They've been used in dance performances and have been shown in museums.
How did he end up in Vogue you say?
After seeing a Soundsuit installation in the Fowler Museum at UCLA in May, the girlfriend of fashion photographer Raymond Meier suggested he see them.
He did, and that led to Vogue's eight-page spread of Cave in shaggy Soundsuits — shot by Meier — to highlight bags and footwear trimmed in fur from Yves Saint Laurent, Dior and more
A little bit on the Artist....Cave, chairman of the fashion department at the School of the Art Institute and former Alvin Ailey dancer, designed his first Soundsuits as kinetic sculptures in the wake of the Los Angeles police beating of King and the race-related riots that followed the cops' acquittal..........
Hes amazing...
My pictures dont do it justice, go out and read the New Vogue Issue..That spread is killer...
Thats All -B
Enjoy
